Frequently asked

Do I need my own instrument?

For the trial lesson, no — we can lend one for the hour. After that yes, you will need an instrument at home to practise on. We are happy to advise on renting: in Rotterdam a decent student violin or cello rents for a modest monthly fee, which is far better than buying badly.

How old do you have to be?

We usually start violin from around six and cello from around seven, but it depends on the child rather than the birthday. There is no upper limit at all — a good share of our students are adults, including complete beginners.

Do you teach online?

Yes, for theory and solfège it works very well. For instrument lessons we prefer in person, but online is a good way to keep going during a busy week or when you are away.

Which languages do you teach in?

Spanish, English and Catalan. We are both learning Dutch — ask us how it is going.

What if I need to cancel?

Let us know at least 24 hours ahead and we will move the lesson at no cost.

Do you prepare students for conservatory auditions?

Yes. Both of us have been through those auditions recently, in Spain and in the Netherlands, and we know what the panels are listening for. For audition preparation we recommend a 60-minute lesson plus a half hour of theory.
